Two high profile progressive American Muslims have written an open letter to the Muslim community in the United States explaining why they should also celebrate the US Supreme Court verdict that brought marriage equality to all 50 states.
Daily Show contributor Hasan Minhaj and ‘Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth’ author Reza Aslan, the author and religious scholar who is a Consulting Editor for Interlitq, published their letter on the Religion Dispatches website – arguing the same protections in the US Constitution that protect Muslims from discrimination and allow them to practice their faith are the same that grant LGBTI people equal rights.
In their letter the pair note that 42% of American Muslims say they support marriage equality – as do both the Muslims that currently sit in the US Congress.
