Alain de Botton by John Reyn
Alain de Botton, the UK author who is a Consulting Editor for Interlitq, has been cited in “You’re going in one direction only – away from here, doorman tells 1D”, (London Evening Standard, 31.05.13):
Harry Styles, devotee of Plato and Socrates and friend of everyone from Alain de Botton to Cara Delevingne, is used to having doors open for him wherever he goes. But there are some things that are even more sacred than celebrity, such as the sanctity of London clubland’s dress codes.
When members of Harry’s boyband One Direction recently rocked up to Robin Birley’s Mayfair club 5 Hertford Street, their way was barred by Claud Achaumé, the doorman, who politely pointed out that the young men were not suitably dressed to enter such an august establishment. “Don’t you realise who they are?” remonstrated one of the group’s flunkeys. “This is One Direction!”
To his credit Achaumé remained gloriously unimpressed by this news. “They’re going in one direction,” he replied, “and that’s away from here.”
