In the course of an event to celebrate the forthcoming 80th birthday of the distinguished Mexican author, translator and diplomat Sergio Pitol (El Porvenir, 05.03.13), Elena Poniatowska, the Mexican author and journalist who is Vice-President of Interlitq, recalled that her first meeting with Pitol was during a hunger strike that she carried out together with Carlos Monsiváis (1938-2010) and in support of the Communist party.
