Ariel Dorfman named 2010 Nelson Mandela Lecturer

Ariel Dorfman, the Chilean novelist, playwright, journalist and human rights activist, Walter Hines Page Chair of Literature and Latin American Studies at Duke University, and a Consulting Editor of “The International Literary Quarterly”, will present the Eighth Annual Nelson Mandela Lecture on July 31st, 2010 in Johannesburg, South Africa. Past speakers include Nobel Peace Laureates Professor Muhammad Yunus, Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Kofi Anan, former presidents Bill Clinton and Thabo Mbeki and President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf. The honour coincides with the celebration of Ariel Dorfman’s 25th Anniversary at Duke and DUCIS (Duke University Center for International Studies) is hosting a year-long celebration of Dorfman’s life work through a series of conferences, round tables and film screenings.
